The Best Burger in Nashville – Fido’s Local Burger

March 31, 2011

I love food when it surprises you. You know, you usually get something and know what it’s going to taste like, right? But sometimes, when you taste something made with a lot of attention to detail, even the most commonplace of foods can blow you away.

Such was the case when I had Chef John Stephenson’s Local Burger at Fido in Nashville. After I got to taste his food during some Fido 101 wine classes, I think John is one of the best chefs in Nashville. So when I saw him at Fido one day, he told me to get the burger for lunch. I love burgers and happily complied.

“Fido Local Burger – local grass fed lamb & beef, feta, kenny’s aged cheddar, fried onion, fig mayo, pickle, caramelized fennel, local lettuce $10”

If you aren’t drooling after you read all of that, something is wrong with you. The burger is cooked to perfection and has a great balance of both flavor and texture. The burger itself is nicely charred, tasty and very juicy – with I think, specks of herbs running all through the meat. The cheese is both creamy, sharp, and perfectly melted (and who doesn’t love Kenny’s cheese!) The accompaniments are also great – especially the crispy onion rings and pickles. I could sit there and eat those pickles all day. The caramelized fennel is a nice touch, instead of onions, which goes awesome with the lamb/beef combo.

What’s great is that there is not too much of any one topping. Everything is perfectly balanced and the burger is still the star of the plate. And although it isn’t mentioned in the description, this bun is awesome. It soaks up all the juice from the burger and doesn’t fall apart.

Go get yourself a local burger. You won’t find any better. I actually want to go get one now…

Cheers,

Vivek

I first had his burger a couple of years ago during my 1st Wine 101 classes and was blown away! He made mini ones then, and I remembering asking for a second one 😉

So weird that you blogged about this today and just last night someone asked me what I thought the best burger in Nashville was, and I said this and Gabby’s. Very different from each other, but I love them both in different ways!

    (oh, and great photo!)
